The McIntyre Bluff hike is one of the best scenic hikes of the Okanagan. If you want a change from cycling and the beach but a good workout, this is the hike for you!

You begin this scenic hike from the Covert Farms Vineyard in Oliver, BC.  The McIntyre Bluff’s overlook Highway 97 and from the top the view stretches south to Osoyoos and up the valley north to Penticton. Views are truly spectacular and worth the 2.5 – 4 hour round trip hike (depending on your speed). Dogs and kids are welcome, which makes this family outing one of the best things to do in the Okanagan.

The McIntyre Bluff hike starts at the beautiful wine tasting shop at Covert Farms.  You begin by signing into the guest book, walk through a few gates, off through the vineyards, and up to the Bluff’s you hike.   This hike is a single track trail that takes you past the vineyard, up through the cattle pastures (you will see and hear them) and to the edge of the Bluff.  The trail has ups and downs and was fairly well marked, as you can see the Bluff’s ahead. The trails in the area always seem to connect back to the main trail. Be prepared to encounter snakes and other wildlife that are well known in the South Okanagan area. This is labeled as semi-arid desert country, so be prepared for snakes and critters. As well you will enjoy the blooming cacti, wildflowers, and foliage along the way.

Bring your hiking shoes or good tread runners as this is a 10 km+ hike up and down.  For those who are fit, it’s an easy hike, for kids and those who are not used to hiking, this is a good hike!  Our Garmin advised that it was a 600 ft. + climb, so be prepared with water and snacks for the top if you are not used to trail running or hiking.

The best part, is that at the end of the hike after you come back down, you know that the wine tasting shop is there waiting for you.  Enjoy a charcuterie platter with local cuisine along with wine tastings, and fresh cold water!  The view and setting at the winery is truly one of our favorite and as such why our cycling wine tasting tours include this winery.

If you love cycling and your partner does not, this is the perfect combination.  You can cycle to the Covert Farms winery with Epic Cycling Wine Adventures and your partner can hike the bluff’s, meeting together at the winery to relax and enjoy.
